Selecting the Proper Ball Weight

Adults:
The weight of the ball should be roughly ten percent of your body weight. Another good rule to go by is to choose a ball that is one to two pounds heavier than the house ball you are bowling with. The reason being is that the grip on the house ball is incorrect and a custom fit ball will feel much lighter because it will be easier to hold on to.

Kids: We recommend a weight equal to their age. Please note 6 & 8 lb bowling balls are designed for kids only not adults. Some manuacturers will not warranty 6 & 8 lb balls that are drilled for adults.

What is the Pin Placement of a bowling ball?

The pin placement of a bowling ball is the distance between the center of the core and the CG. How far the pin is from the CG will help to dictate the balls reaction on the lane.

The shorter pins like (0 - 2") will roll up earlier on the lane, and will have a smoother arcing motion to the pocket.

The longer pins like (4"+) will go much farther down the lane before starting to hook toward the pocket. The longer pins will also have a more dramatic motion toward the pins (possibly like a hockey stick shape or a skid/flip type of reaction).

The (2 - 4") pins are the most versatile to lay out for your ball driller allowing them to manipulate the ball path and have it roll up earlier or later depending on how they lay the ball out.

Why is this important?
You want to have the bowling balls natural intended reaction to match up with your drilling pattern you select for the bowling ball. If you get a short pin but want the ball to go long the ball will want to roll up early, even if you drill the ball to go long. This will cause you to have to loft the ball or push through it harder to try to get the desired ball reaction. If you would have selected the correct pin distance and applied a complementary drilling to the ball, you can throw the ball with much less effort, and let the ball do the work for you. This allows you to relax and be smooth, improving your release and scores.

What is the Top Weight of a bowling ball?

Top weight is the amount of weight difference from the top of the bowling ball (CG) and the bottom of the ball (opposite the cg).

In general their will always be more weight to the top of the ball (CG). This is due to the fact that when you drill finger holes into the ball you are extracting weight from the ball (generally 2 ounces or more depending the hole sizes and the density of the core) and it was initially designed to keep the ball balanced after it was drilled.

Balls with lower initial top weight were generally more stable after drilled than those with higher top weights due to the fact that their was so much weight left over after drilling. This created imbalance and often time added length and backend reaction for early three piece (Pancake weight block) bowling balls.

Top weight by today's standards is not nearly as important because a majority of the weight mass of most bowling balls is closer to the center of the ball than the shell and top weight has less of an effect because ball motion is more about the placement of the weight block itself and not the static weight mass. Top weight these days usually dictates hole size for those off label drillings.

What does this mean in selecting the correct top weight?

2.5 or less - Is for standard drilling techniques. It is also used for advanced drillings where moving the cg further off center of span creates a stronger drilling. You may not needing a weight hole with this type of drilling but depending on how far the cg is moved you may need a weight hole.

2.5 to 3.5 - Is great for normal layouts, a weight hole is not typical for this top weight. Stronger drillings may require a weight hole.

3.5 or more - This top weight is good if you want the ball to push more (go farther down the lane) while adding backend motion, but only if the ball driller knows and incorporates this into the drilling.

It can also be used for placing a big weight hole in a ball because it adds static weight to the drilling. This means you can use a stronger drilling than normal but make it legal by adding a weight hole to remove excess top weight (you can only have 1 oz of top weight remaining after drilling).

***NOTE: These are just basic descriptions to what top weight can do. There are many more scenarios for each top weight and what is capable with each different top weight range. Please discuss with your ball driller how they plan to drill you ball to get a better idea if they plan to use a weight hole or not to achieve the ball reaction you desire. There is no way to guarantee a ball will not need a weight hole depending on the top weight selected, the ball layout will determine that.

Shoe Size Charts

900 Global, Brunswick, Dexter and Storm bowling shoes run true to size.

Right Handed Shoes: Made for bowlers that bowl with their right hand because the slide pad is on the left shoe, which is the foot you slide with.

Left Handed Shoes: Made for bowlers that bowl with their left hand because the slide pad is on the right shoe, which is the foot you slide with.

Uni-sole Shoes: These shoes can be used for right or left handed bowlers because the slide pads are on both feet.

Don't know your shoe size? Do the following...

To get the best fit and comfort, we suggest measuring your feet each time you purchase a new pair of shoes because your feet will change during your lifetime.

1. Get a blank piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler or tape measure.
2. Put on the pair of socks you intend to wear with the shoes you are ordering. Through the course of the day, your feet will swell so it's best to measure them at the end of the day.
3. With the paper placed on a hard floor, sit down in a chair and place your foot flat on the paper. Lean forward, putting more weight onto the foot you are going to measure. As you probably know, your feet are different sizes so be sure to measure your larger foot.
4. Holding a pencil vertically, place a mark at the end of your heel. Place another mark at the tip of your longest toe.
5. With the ruler or tape measure, measure from the heel to the tip of your longest toe.

To Find Your Width:

Measure the distance between the two widest points on your foot. Reduce this number by 5 mm, or 1/5-inch. The result is the number you will use to determine your foot width.

To find your size, use the inch-to-size table. For example, if you are a man and your foot measures 10" long, you will wear a U.S. size 8 shoe. If you are between measurements, size up to the next larger size. It is easy to add a pair of socks to take up a little extra room but very difficult to make shoes that are too small comfortable.

Note: Just because you are a size 9 in one brand doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be a 9 in another. Footwear sizes and shapes vary from brand to brand. Please keep this in mind.

Storm Intense Fire Bowling Ball

Building on the huge success of the Intense which brought a whole new ball motion to pearl bowling balls the Intense Fire is stepping up the game with a hybrid coverstock. From the coverstock to the core to the color, and even the fragrance, everything about this new ball is INTENSE!

During the initial testing of the Intense Fire we tried many different coverstocks that all performed admirably, but R3S Hybrid shined above all else. The Intense™ was renowned for strong midlane read thanks to its R3S coverstock. We take it a step further by changing gears to a hybrid form. You may also notice a shift in the coloring of the Intense Fire to something never-before-seen that’s come from the Utah factory. This ball looks as good as it rolls, too.

Of course, the Premier badge brings a lot with it besides prestige, and it all starts under the shell. Radial Accelerating Disk™ (RAD) technology is now in its sixth generation with the RAD-E and earns some of the highest marks on the Professional Bowler’s Tour. The “E” stands for ENERGY as the elongated ellipses near the pin increase the separation of mass as well as the potential energy of this dynamic beast.

The New Storm Intense Fire is the perfect compliment to the original Storm Intense. The Fire reads the midlane better with the Hybrid R3S Cover wrapped over the RAD E Core. I layed mine out with my favorite pin down drilling (60X4X70) and I wasnt dissapointed. This ball will work for all types of games, ball speeds, and rev rates. Go get your hands on one of the most predictable Asym balls on the market, the Storm Intense Fire. Bowl Up A storm. Erik Ramos Storm/Roto Grip Pro Staff

Intense Fire review by Tommy Gollick
The Intense Fire is the second ball in the premier line to use the RAD E core shape, only this time with a polished hybrid R3S cover. The core numbers of the RAD E core in a 15lb ball is 2.49 Rg, 0.050 diff, and 0.017 PSA diff. The ultramarine, persimmon, black color combination is a new look for Storm. I drilled my Intense Fire 4 x 5.5 x 3. This is the same layout I used on my Hyper Cell Fused. The Intense and the Fused are both strong asymmetrical pieces, so I will be comparing the two. The Intense Fire in the box finish gets through the heads nicely. The Fire produces a very strong midlane read, with a hard change of direction at the breakpoint. Comparing to the Fused which has a strong continuous hard arch, the Intense Fire is a more defined and earlier shape, with more roll toward the pins. The overall hook potential of the Intense Fire is a few boards more than that of the Fused, mainly because of the stronger change of direction and earlier read of the lane. The hybrid cover in box finish of the Intense Fire reads oil a little better than that of the Fused also at box finish. These are a great one/two combination for bowlers who bowl a lot of tournaments and see lots of variety in lane patterns and lane surfaces. If you already have a Fused, and primarily only bowl league on a house shot, the two could overlap a bit. The differences in roll shapes is more noticeable on flatter patterns in my opinion. Comparing the Intense Fire to the original Intense (R3S pearl), the Fire is earlier and stronger overall by a few boards. Bigger differences can be achieved by adjusting the cover to the Fire, as the cover is very tunable, and holds surface better than on the original Intense. I like the Intense Fire for times when I need a defined hook shape. I would suggest the Intense Fire for anyone looking for a little angularity off the spot. There are better options than the Intense Fire if you are looking for that benchmark type reaction, unless the only thing you bowl on is a condition that you need a stronger breakpoint ball, then by all means, this IS the one ball for you.Thank you for taking the time to read my review of the Storm Intense Fire bowling ball. As always, bowl up a Storm!

Storm Intense Fire
Storm Intense Fire ***Rad-3 Core*** ***1500-grit polished R3S Hybrid Coverstock*** The Storm Intense Fire was the second ball added to my arsenal since going exclusively Storm/Roto Grip. The first was the Storm Match Up Black Pearl. Set up with one of my go to layouts, 65x5x40. The plan for this piece is to be one of the stronger hybrid's in my arsenal. I wanted it to be a big step up from the Match Up Black Pearl, basically setting up the higher and lower ends of my lineup (reaction wise). The Intense Fire, through one practice session, definitely fits the bill. Strong but not overly angular, I can see this piece being heavily relied when I need some downlane power. I will say that it is a bit less angular that I expected. Could be the fact that it my head a compare it to the original Intense, which from my experience was very angular. With the Intense Fire and Match Up Black Pearl, I now have two drastically different slots in my arsenal covered. I will be filling the benchmark part of my arsenal next, most likely with the Hy-Road. #StormNation About Me: Cooper Mathewson, Storm Amateur Staff Right handed, I'd call myself a weak cranker. Average speed about 16mph. PAP 5 3/8>, 7/8^ 8* axis tilt, 66* axis rotation, rev rate is right about 400

Intense Fire
After getting a chance to use my Intense Fire for awhile i really like what i've seen form this ball. It's a nice fit between my Code X and mt Intense when i need that extra pop i don't see from my Code X this ball picks right up and keeps going. The Intense Fire is really clean in the fronts for me and i drilled mine stronger than my Intense to give me a different shape on the lane. This is a great choice for anyone looking to add a high end ball to there bag.

Storm Intense Fire
The Intense Fire is Storm’s new Premier line ball. It has a R3S hybrid cover with the RAD-E core. I had some success with the original Intense on longer, higher volume patterns. Even with the shiny pearl R3S, if I didn’t have oil it was too early. So, I took some time with the new Fire before drilling. Based on the Fires I saw going down the lane, it looked easier through the front part of the lane with more pop downlane. So, I went with a 50 x 4.5 x 30 layout (identical to my Intense). After throwing the Fire on a variety of patterns, I think this is a more useful version of the Intense for me. It has easier length which allows it to retain more energy downlane increasing pin carry. I have also altered the surface to 2000 for test purposes and looks just as good. Don’t be afraid to put your favorite layout on this one and see what it can do for you! Chris Freeland Storm Amateur Staff
