Selecting the Proper Ball Weight

Adults:
The weight of the ball should be roughly ten percent of your body weight. Another good rule to go by is to choose a ball that is one to two pounds heavier than the house ball you are bowling with. The reason being is that the grip on the house ball is incorrect and a custom fit ball will feel much lighter because it will be easier to hold on to.

Kids: We recommend a weight equal to their age. Please note 6 & 8 lb bowling balls are designed for kids only not adults. Some manuacturers will not warranty 6 & 8 lb balls that are drilled for adults.

What is the Pin Placement of a bowling ball?

The pin placement of a bowling ball is the distance between the center of the core and the CG. How far the pin is from the CG will help to dictate the balls reaction on the lane.

The shorter pins like (0 - 2") will roll up earlier on the lane, and will have a smoother arcing motion to the pocket.

The longer pins like (4"+) will go much farther down the lane before starting to hook toward the pocket. The longer pins will also have a more dramatic motion toward the pins (possibly like a hockey stick shape or a skid/flip type of reaction).

The (2 - 4") pins are the most versatile to lay out for your ball driller allowing them to manipulate the ball path and have it roll up earlier or later depending on how they lay the ball out.

Why is this important?
You want to have the bowling balls natural intended reaction to match up with your drilling pattern you select for the bowling ball. If you get a short pin but want the ball to go long the ball will want to roll up early, even if you drill the ball to go long. This will cause you to have to loft the ball or push through it harder to try to get the desired ball reaction. If you would have selected the correct pin distance and applied a complementary drilling to the ball, you can throw the ball with much less effort, and let the ball do the work for you. This allows you to relax and be smooth, improving your release and scores.

What is the Top Weight of a bowling ball?

Top weight is the amount of weight difference from the top of the bowling ball (CG) and the bottom of the ball (opposite the cg).

In general their will always be more weight to the top of the ball (CG). This is due to the fact that when you drill finger holes into the ball you are extracting weight from the ball (generally 2 ounces or more depending the hole sizes and the density of the core) and it was initially designed to keep the ball balanced after it was drilled.

Balls with lower initial top weight were generally more stable after drilled than those with higher top weights due to the fact that their was so much weight left over after drilling. This created imbalance and often time added length and backend reaction for early three piece (Pancake weight block) bowling balls.

Top weight by today's standards is not nearly as important because a majority of the weight mass of most bowling balls is closer to the center of the ball than the shell and top weight has less of an effect because ball motion is more about the placement of the weight block itself and not the static weight mass. Top weight these days usually dictates hole size for those off label drillings.

What does this mean in selecting the correct top weight?

2.5 or less - Is for standard drilling techniques. It is also used for advanced drillings where moving the cg further off center of span creates a stronger drilling. You may not needing a weight hole with this type of drilling but depending on how far the cg is moved you may need a weight hole.

2.5 to 3.5 - Is great for normal layouts, a weight hole is not typical for this top weight. Stronger drillings may require a weight hole.

3.5 or more - This top weight is good if you want the ball to push more (go farther down the lane) while adding backend motion, but only if the ball driller knows and incorporates this into the drilling.

It can also be used for placing a big weight hole in a ball because it adds static weight to the drilling. This means you can use a stronger drilling than normal but make it legal by adding a weight hole to remove excess top weight (you can only have 1 oz of top weight remaining after drilling).

***NOTE: These are just basic descriptions to what top weight can do. There are many more scenarios for each top weight and what is capable with each different top weight range. Please discuss with your ball driller how they plan to drill you ball to get a better idea if they plan to use a weight hole or not to achieve the ball reaction you desire. There is no way to guarantee a ball will not need a weight hole depending on the top weight selected, the ball layout will determine that.

Shoe Size Charts

900 Global, Brunswick, Dexter and Storm bowling shoes run true to size.

Right Handed Shoes: Made for bowlers that bowl with their right hand because the slide pad is on the left shoe, which is the foot you slide with.

Left Handed Shoes: Made for bowlers that bowl with their left hand because the slide pad is on the right shoe, which is the foot you slide with.

Uni-sole Shoes: These shoes can be used for right or left handed bowlers because the slide pads are on both feet.

Don't know your shoe size? Do the following...

To get the best fit and comfort, we suggest measuring your feet each time you purchase a new pair of shoes because your feet will change during your lifetime.

1. Get a blank piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler or tape measure.
2. Put on the pair of socks you intend to wear with the shoes you are ordering. Through the course of the day, your feet will swell so it's best to measure them at the end of the day.
3. With the paper placed on a hard floor, sit down in a chair and place your foot flat on the paper. Lean forward, putting more weight onto the foot you are going to measure. As you probably know, your feet are different sizes so be sure to measure your larger foot.
4. Holding a pencil vertically, place a mark at the end of your heel. Place another mark at the tip of your longest toe.
5. With the ruler or tape measure, measure from the heel to the tip of your longest toe.

To Find Your Width:

Measure the distance between the two widest points on your foot. Reduce this number by 5 mm, or 1/5-inch. The result is the number you will use to determine your foot width.

To find your size, use the inch-to-size table. For example, if you are a man and your foot measures 10" long, you will wear a U.S. size 8 shoe. If you are between measurements, size up to the next larger size. It is easy to add a pair of socks to take up a little extra room but very difficult to make shoes that are too small comfortable.

Note: Just because you are a size 9 in one brand doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be a 9 in another. Footwear sizes and shapes vary from brand to brand. Please keep this in mind.

Storm Timeless Bowling Ball

A revolutionary ball in collaboration with Jason Belmonte the reigning three-time PBA Player of the Year. Timeless is the first release in our all-new Signature Line, an unprecedented and versatile series focusing on one-of-a-kind products. The Timeless features the unparalleled Dual-Drive weight block and superior R2S coverstock. The combination of these unique attributes gives the ball a fast-revving benefit like the !Q Tour with the hitting power of the Hy-Road.

The inception of the Dual-Drive was born of a sprawling development process that has spanned years. This could not be achieved without placing a weight block of specific size and shape inside of another weight block. The outer weight block incorporates strategically placed geometric shapes that, in conjunction with the inner weight block, establishes a new standard in bowling ball motion – faster revving action with a higher level of energy transfer at the pins.

Timeless Review
The Timeless was released in February into the new Signature Line from Storm. The Timeless features the Dual Drive weight block surrounded by the R2S Hybrid Reactive coverstock. I went with my favorite layout which is pin below the fingers with the cg kicked out with a weight down at 6 inches. That roughly formulates to 45 X 5.5 X 75 for the dual angle drillers. That is based off my pap which is 5 5/8 over and ¾ up. The Timeless really pushed through the front part of the lane like an IQ30 and read the backend like an original HyRoad. I was able to throw Timeless along with a HyRoad with a similar layout. The noticeable difference is the length of the Timeless Out Of The Box but with a surface change (2000 grit) the Timeless was more responsive than the HyRoad throughout the entire lane. The Timeless before the surface change was really too drastic for me at the break point… The surface change woke up the overall reaction of the Timeless and the over under was nonexistent. The Timeless is the prefect first release for the signature line because of its unique motion. If you liked the HyRoad and looking for something just more than the Timeless is your nugget!

Storm Timeless Review by Jordan Racke
Tester: Jordan Racke Condition: 40 ft house shot PAP: 5 5/8 Right, ¼ down Ball Speed: 16 mph Rev Rate: 450 rpm I decided to drill my Timeless pin up. When looking at different layouts and deciding what I wanted the ball to do, I came to the conclusion that I want something that I could get down the lane and control. I wasn’t looking for something too “flippy” and after watching a few friends throw theirs before I got mine, I noticed how much theirs moved as the ball reached the end of the pattern. The Timeless is a perfect ball for many different things. If you want something that is going to get through the front part of the lane with ease and snap hard off the back end, this is the ball for you. If you want something like I did, which is a ball that can get through the front cleanly and have a nice controlled hook off the end that’s smooth, it is perfect for that too. With being a two-hander, I can play right with this ball and put some speed into it, or I can go left.

Storm Timeless
The hype was real about this release, good and bad, I suppose. The new weight block design and the proven R2S cover was a match that was anticipated greatly. I drilled mine with a typical pin up symmetric look, it was super easy up front and read the friction hard on the back. I am slightly speed dominant and have low axis tilt, so getting a good read with equipment is tough. My first practice games with the Timeless were exciting, stringing strikes and tossing pins....My league night didn't go so well. The ball, in my opinion, is very friction sensitive, I know, bowling balls are supposed to be that way. It's at a new level with the timeless, I couldn't get into a comfortable spot with this ball. Now, I am in no way a super star on the lanes, I'm the pro shop guy just having fun. I had no room at all during my league set, hit the dry a bit quick...nose, tug it in a bit...wash out. It was very demanding to hit the pocket, we do have a 45 foot house shot on Utopia oil which is pretty slick, so.....I have drilled other Timeless balls for my customers and most of them are very satisfied. Maybe it's just me, haha. Honestly, I have only used it a few games since the first night and I am planning on getting a few more reps with it soon. Let me know what you think. #stormnation

Storm Timeless Review by Brian Watson
The new Storm ball in the signature line is Belmo's Timeless. Storm has done its homework in the research and development of the Timeless. Along with the insights from Belmo. I drilled mine 4.25x4.25x4.5 or 45x4.25x75 pin down. Let me just mention that the Timeless is just different. The ball reaction is unique, nothing like any other ball that I have drilled. For some its the biggest backend ball that they have drilled. For others it is nice controlled arcing motion. Which what I have with the timeless. The timeless just goes through the pins the right way, which gives you great carry. You don't have to be a high rev player to throw the Timeless, at the Storm Match Maker events it was our most popular ball from all styles. Brian Watson Storm/RG Pro Shop Staff

Storm Timeless Ball Review by PJ Haggerty
When the Hyroad was first released from Storm in 2008, it quickly became one of my favorite balls, especially late in blocks. A piece of my heart still remains with the Hyroad because it still goes almost everywhere with me, but the Timeless might be the new Buzz Lightyear if you will (sorry , the twins are watching more Toy Story these days). A collaboration with our genius minds at Storm and currently the best player in the world have developed a home run addition to our line, the Timeless. Using the Hyroad cover with a new designed core, the Timeless is a ball for all types of players. I think the Timeless reads the lane earlier than the Hyroad because of the strength of the core, but still goes through the pins like the Hyroad. I’ve drilled two so far and the first one is mapped out as 4 ½ x 4 ¼ with a small hole on my axis and the surface is at 2000. The other is 5 x 3 with a hole down and surface at 3000. Both balls roll great! #StormNation
