Selecting the Proper Ball Weight

Adults:
The weight of the ball should be roughly ten percent of your body weight. Another good rule to go by is to choose a ball that is one to two pounds heavier than the house ball you are bowling with. The reason being is that the grip on the house ball is incorrect and a custom fit ball will feel much lighter because it will be easier to hold on to.

Kids: We recommend a weight equal to their age. Please note 6 & 8 lb bowling balls are designed for kids only not adults. Some manuacturers will not warranty 6 & 8 lb balls that are drilled for adults.

What is the Pin Placement of a bowling ball?

The pin placement of a bowling ball is the distance between the center of the core and the CG. How far the pin is from the CG will help to dictate the balls reaction on the lane.

The shorter pins like (0 - 2") will roll up earlier on the lane, and will have a smoother arcing motion to the pocket.

The longer pins like (4"+) will go much farther down the lane before starting to hook toward the pocket. The longer pins will also have a more dramatic motion toward the pins (possibly like a hockey stick shape or a skid/flip type of reaction).

The (2 - 4") pins are the most versatile to lay out for your ball driller allowing them to manipulate the ball path and have it roll up earlier or later depending on how they lay the ball out.

Why is this important?
You want to have the bowling balls natural intended reaction to match up with your drilling pattern you select for the bowling ball. If you get a short pin but want the ball to go long the ball will want to roll up early, even if you drill the ball to go long. This will cause you to have to loft the ball or push through it harder to try to get the desired ball reaction. If you would have selected the correct pin distance and applied a complementary drilling to the ball, you can throw the ball with much less effort, and let the ball do the work for you. This allows you to relax and be smooth, improving your release and scores.

What is the Top Weight of a bowling ball?

Top weight is the amount of weight difference from the top of the bowling ball (CG) and the bottom of the ball (opposite the cg).

In general their will always be more weight to the top of the ball (CG). This is due to the fact that when you drill finger holes into the ball you are extracting weight from the ball (generally 2 ounces or more depending the hole sizes and the density of the core) and it was initially designed to keep the ball balanced after it was drilled.

Balls with lower initial top weight were generally more stable after drilled than those with higher top weights due to the fact that their was so much weight left over after drilling. This created imbalance and often time added length and backend reaction for early three piece (Pancake weight block) bowling balls.

Top weight by today's standards is not nearly as important because a majority of the weight mass of most bowling balls is closer to the center of the ball than the shell and top weight has less of an effect because ball motion is more about the placement of the weight block itself and not the static weight mass. Top weight these days usually dictates hole size for those off label drillings.

What does this mean in selecting the correct top weight?

2.5 or less - Is for standard drilling techniques. It is also used for advanced drillings where moving the cg further off center of span creates a stronger drilling. You may not needing a weight hole with this type of drilling but depending on how far the cg is moved you may need a weight hole.

2.5 to 3.5 - Is great for normal layouts, a weight hole is not typical for this top weight. Stronger drillings may require a weight hole.

3.5 or more - This top weight is good if you want the ball to push more (go farther down the lane) while adding backend motion, but only if the ball driller knows and incorporates this into the drilling.

It can also be used for placing a big weight hole in a ball because it adds static weight to the drilling. This means you can use a stronger drilling than normal but make it legal by adding a weight hole to remove excess top weight (you can only have 1 oz of top weight remaining after drilling).

***NOTE: These are just basic descriptions to what top weight can do. There are many more scenarios for each top weight and what is capable with each different top weight range. Please discuss with your ball driller how they plan to drill you ball to get a better idea if they plan to use a weight hole or not to achieve the ball reaction you desire. There is no way to guarantee a ball will not need a weight hole depending on the top weight selected, the ball layout will determine that.

Shoe Size Charts

900 Global, Brunswick, Dexter and Storm bowling shoes run true to size.

Right Handed Shoes: Made for bowlers that bowl with their right hand because the slide pad is on the left shoe, which is the foot you slide with.

Left Handed Shoes: Made for bowlers that bowl with their left hand because the slide pad is on the right shoe, which is the foot you slide with.

Uni-sole Shoes: These shoes can be used for right or left handed bowlers because the slide pads are on both feet.

Don't know your shoe size? Do the following...

To get the best fit and comfort, we suggest measuring your feet each time you purchase a new pair of shoes because your feet will change during your lifetime.

1. Get a blank piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler or tape measure.
2. Put on the pair of socks you intend to wear with the shoes you are ordering. Through the course of the day, your feet will swell so it's best to measure them at the end of the day.
3. With the paper placed on a hard floor, sit down in a chair and place your foot flat on the paper. Lean forward, putting more weight onto the foot you are going to measure. As you probably know, your feet are different sizes so be sure to measure your larger foot.
4. Holding a pencil vertically, place a mark at the end of your heel. Place another mark at the tip of your longest toe.
5. With the ruler or tape measure, measure from the heel to the tip of your longest toe.

To Find Your Width:

Measure the distance between the two widest points on your foot. Reduce this number by 5 mm, or 1/5-inch. The result is the number you will use to determine your foot width.

To find your size, use the inch-to-size table. For example, if you are a man and your foot measures 10" long, you will wear a U.S. size 8 shoe. If you are between measurements, size up to the next larger size. It is easy to add a pair of socks to take up a little extra room but very difficult to make shoes that are too small comfortable.

Note: Just because you are a size 9 in one brand doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be a 9 in another. Footwear sizes and shapes vary from brand to brand. Please keep this in mind.

Description

The ALL-NEW Reality™ brings a solid version of the incredibly strong S84 Response™ cover to the table. Combined with a revolutionary core, the Reality will be the strongest ball 900 Global offers!

The S84 Response solid cover utilizes a technology that promotes up to 20% larger pore sizes. By offering this cover in a 2000 Abralon™ finish, we have ensured maximum traction in the heaviest of oil. The Reality will rival the original Volatility™ in terms of overall hook.

The Disturbance™ Asymmetric core creates asymmetry by having differing shapes on the bottom and top of the weight block. This core was designed with a focus on a shape that will fill a space with the least amount of material, yet still yield the RG/Diff values that all bowlers demand.

First ball out of the bag in leagues and it will show me if I need to ball down. If you can use a word like READABILITY this is the definition of this ball. Drilled with new standard pin up layout I see great skid in front with that READABILITY coming off the pattern. Strongest ball I have that can be used entirely in one set provided you chase the oil in and depending on the volume. I have as of this review 25+ games bowled on it. No surface change needed just typical lane shine and cleaning after each use. Being a low rev bowler at my age (58) speed matched, it's a pleasure to be able to use a high flaring ball without the DOA hits. The Reality carry percentage is high as it rolls consistently through the pin deck. The 2000 Abralon cover should take well if needed. This a ball taylor made for all styles searching for a high flaring ball that only looks good but scores well too. #GoGlobal #StrikingWorldwide #stormnation Keith Cordy 900 Global Staff Ambassador

1st 900 Global Ball
Reality Review Cover: S84 Response Solid RG: 2.49 Dif:0.052 PSA: 0.018 PAP: 5 ½ x 1 ½ UP This is the first 900 Global ball I have ever thrown. I have a difficult time matching up with Asymmetrical balls. I am more of a down and In player with higher ball speeds and a lower rev rate (however recently I have worked on increasing the rev rate and lowering the ball speed) I was really surprised at how much this ball hooked. I really like the ball motion and how strong it is. I drilled this OOB 60 x 3 1/4 x 45. Which puts the pin above my ring finger kicked out to the right. I spend along trying to figure out how to layout this ball and I nailed this one. I left the cover OOB. Reality is smooth and predictable with a strong backend motion. It is earlier than the Proton Physix but still picks up well and does not burn up and has strong continuation through the pins. I have a hard time getting Asymmetrical getting through the pins without burning up and getting the right shape. I can move

We tested the 900 Global Volatility Torque (an absolute beast) but did not do a review. I was able to win a senior tournament throwing the Volatility Torque fresh off the press. The Reality utilizes the S84 Response solid cover with the Disturbance asymmetric core. The cover and weight block complement each other well. The Reality was versatile during testing. The test bowlers were able to play multiple angles with the Reality on the house shot. I see the Reality as a 1b tournament ball that will be used when the Storm Proton Physix is reading the lanes too soon but the oil is heavy enough that you still need a surface ball. The Reality carried very well during testing. Everyone watching the test session said the same thing – “This ball looks like it is going to strike every time going down the lane”. 900 Global Reality Ball Review
The 900 Global Reality has a low RG value of 2.49 a high differential of 0.052 and a low intermediate differential of 0.018. 900 global came out with a new cover core combination of the S84 Response Solid Reactive and the Disturbance Asymmetric Core. The Disturbance core was designed with a focus on a shape that will fill a space with the least amount of material, yet still yield the RG/Diff values that all bowlers need. The S84 Response cover promotes up to 20% larger pore sizes which in turn ensures maximum traction on heavy oil. In addition, the Reality will rival the original Volatility with the S86R cover that was an asymmetric hybrid. In the videos you will see how the cover core combination comes together with an early revving motion in the heads combined with a strong backend reaction. In my bag the Reality will be the first out the bag for a heavy oil pattern and maybe on a fresh house shot depending on how much oil is in the mid lane. Then you can ball down to a 900 Global Zen to blend the wet/dry. I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Zen, Storm Proton Physix and Roto Grip Rubicon. In comparison to the 900 Global Zen, the Zen will be a litter more smoother the mids due to having a symmetric pearl coverstock but a touch more reactive on the backend giving you an option to open up your angles. The Storm Proton Physix drilled pin down can give an option to ball down from the Zen when the lanes become a little dryer and more cliffed. The Roto Grip Rubicon will give you an option to use on the burn while being able to play around the same area as the other pieces.

Coverstock: S84R Solid Finish: 2000 Grit Abralon Core: Disturbance Asymmetric  RG: 2.49 Differential: 0.052 Int Diff: 0.018 Layout: 50 x 3 1/4 x 45 Tester:  PAP 5 1/2 R, 1 1/2 D Review: The 900 Global Reality offers a focused brand new core design with an aggressive coverstock. This specific design is intended to maximize control with more hook potential then its predecessor the 900 Global Volatility. This ball is definitely the hook monster you are looking for, but with a twist....the Reality will allow you to continue to open the lane up as transition occurs. At times, my Volatility would tend to "quit" and my next ball down wasn't quite enough. The Reality should fill that gap on longer and higher volume patterns. You should expect a continuous, strong reaction throughout the lane. Also, 900 has kept the Int Diff lower on the Reality to achieve some length down lane so the ball as designed does not "hook at your feet" and "quit". This has been the wow factor of the Reality at recent Storm Matchmaker events. As previous noted above, the Reality will work best on longer and higher volume patterns.  If your desire is to stay left before and after the lanes transition this ball will not disappoint. If you want the biggest hooking ball on the market today in your bag, this is the one!  Don't hesitate to try out the 900 Global Reality today. Michael Slatky 900 Global Staff Member York, PA
